Just a quick post because we know we've been quiet for a while. For the past 5 days we've been on the road in Hawaii updating the UNITED STATES portion of COTW WANDERING and everything you see above has been on hand with us each step of the way. Safe the say the sunblock has been getting a serious work out.

We've been obsessed with exploring HI for years and are making up for lost time, stopping on the Big Island, Maui and finishing in Oahu. We love it here. Since HI didn't officially become part of the U.S until 1959, you've got a world of cultural influences at your fingertips. From food to architecture, it's like the best of Japan and Polynesia, with just enough U.S kitsch to balance everything out.

More soon...

The location is still perfect and there are still the same impeccable seascape views from the old days of North Bondi Italian but the mood inside the dining room is well and truly new. You'll still find many of the city's cool set sipping wines on the balcony, although now they wouldn't have to twice about bringing the kids along.

Not to say that NBF is a family restaurant in the traditional sense. It's just that a lighter energy of inclusiveness has taken hold. Aided in no small part by Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan's (of Morsul, who also run ARIA, Chiswick and Opera Bar) menu of traditional beachside favourites. We all know it's just not a Sydney summer unless you've had beer battered fish or Moreton Bay bugs at least once.

In typical Morsul style though they've taken everything up a notch or two. Deep-fried avoidant locals are well taken care of with the seared Mooloolaba swordfish steak or anything from the RAW section of the menu (we had the Walker Albacore Tuna in sesame and ginger soy)...

That laneway just below Milsons Point Station has long been crying out for some sort of cafe or eatery. The luxury car showroom just a few doors up is nice and all but if you're a commuter in dire need of a incentive to get to work every day, coffee really is the only thing that's going to cut it.

The team at Bay Ten have delivered this and then some, sharing the space with a specialist bike fitter and a sports physio. It's essentially a one-stop-shop (the cyclery even has a shower).

The cafe itself functions out of a recycled shipping container, reportedly purchased on the cheap from the NSW police who seized it for smuggling narcotics into the city. The highs at Bay Ten are purely caffeinated though and if you're looking for a seriously good drop on a hot day, you can't go wrong with a glass of their 16 Hour Cold Brew...

We love Henriett. The girl has serious energy and the best vibes in the business... even when she has to lie around in seaweed.

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: Oliver Peoples Specs in WILDMAN, COTW Artisan Fire candle in TERRA FIRMA, Crystal Head vodka (used as vase), 'A Place Called Home' by Mr Jason Grant

What we love about Mr Jason Grant is he makes interior styling super accessible. His books are so full of colour they feel infectiously happy with just a flick through every now and then. Great for quirky little styling ideas that won't break the bank.
