“I don’t think there are any secrets to running a successful business but rather just doing the obvious things well. If you take care of your customers, build good relationships around you and represent products that you are intensely passionate about, it’s hard to go wrong.”

Citizens of the World candles x Paula Walden Spring/Summer 2013

Amy Pes and Nikita Jacka Observe the CURVE Collection_oliverblackPaula Walden’s name has been flitting around our peripheral vision for a while, thanks to the all-sharing all-amazing app that is Instagram. We seem to know a lot of the same people, or a lot of people who adore her pieces.

A few weeks ago her designs hit us front and centre when she approached us to buy 6 of our DWELLER candles. Having only launched the range a few months ago, we get excited every time someone buys a single candle, let alone a collection. So, what we’re saying is – we were thrilled on Michael Jackson circa 1892 levels.

Earlier this week Paula celebrated the launch of her Spring/Summer 2013 Curve collection – with our DWELLERs burning brightly in the background. It was a hugely fulfilling to see them at such a beautiful event, let alone flanking her brilliantly imaginative pieces.

Paula’s jewellery isn’t traditional or mainstream. Each piece has something to say and sometimes adding a subversive tinge to the conversation (we’re looking particularly at the gold-rimmed glasses).

As you know, there’s a great deal of jewellery out there, however there’s not a lot of great jewellery out there that lends itself to inventive design. Something that Paula brings to the table, having graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and collaborated with Gail Sorronda, Dion Lee and George Wu.

Last minute commitments meant we weren’t able to attend the launch but we’ll be heading down to her pop up shop at 7 Randle Lane in Surry Hills this weekend.

Thank you so much to Paula and Sara Huegill for including us.

We may have opted for the darker, moodier shots but it seems a shame not to put these up.
